Using ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a tool trained on massive amount of text from the internet. It generates responses by predicting the most probable word to follow another. ChatGPT may not always provide accurate answers or information. Sometimes it makes mistakes, which is called "hallucination" in the world of artificial intelligence.

As a student, it is crucial to develop research skills, think critically, evaluate sources, communicate effectively and much more. Use ChatGPT or other generative AI tools with care and make sure to check the sources and information critically.

Here are some DO's and DONT'S for using ChatGPT:

DOs

  • Check if your school has any restrictions about using ChatGPT.
  • Use ChatGPT and other generative AI tools to support your learning.
  • Verify the accuracy of information produced by ChatGPT against other sources of information.
  • Cite ChatGPT (see section below) as a source of information as long as you use it, even if you paraphrase the content.

DONT'S

  • Make ChatGPT write your entire assignment as it is constituted as plagiarism.
  • Use recommended resources from ChatGPT for your assignment as most of them do not exist or are completely irrelevant.
  • Rely on ChatGPT for everything. While it can be helpful, it's not infallible.
