The guidelines for submission of student project reports to the Library are as follows:

1. In electronic format - Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.
2. Report saved in only one file.
3. When saving file, follow this naming convention: [Title] - stud proj [School Code] [Year].[File Format] Example: Chocolates Incorporated With Inulin - stud proj CLS 2005.doc
4. Include a cover page with the following information:
  • School(s)
  • Diploma(s)
  • Project Title
  • Project Code (if available)
  • Student Name(s)
  • Admin. No.(s)
  • Supervisor Name(s)
  • Academic Year
  • Year of Study (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)
  • Word Count (if applicable)

5. Include an abstract of your project. Click here for information about writing abstracts.
6. For other project related materials in electronic format, they can also be submitted to the Library. Examples include computer games, music files, video clips, posters, presentations, etc. When saving the file(s), follow similar naming convention as for project report: [Title] - stud proj [RM1, RM2, RM3] [School Code] [Year].[File Format] Where: RM indicates Related Material
7. Save your report and related materials onto a CD / DVD and hand in to your supervisor.

The guidelines for the order of presentation of the various parts of a student project report are as follows:

 

1. Cover Page Follow this template.
2. Abstract Click here for guidelines.
3. Acknowledgements (not more than 1 page) A brief 'thank you' to persons, industries or companies who provided assistance or guidance in some way.
4. Table of Contents Click here for a sample on the structure and numbering to be followed.
5. List of Figures List the figures (diagrams, illustrations, graphs, etc.) used in the report in numerical order. Include figure number, title and page number.
6. List of Tables List the tables used in the report in numerical order. Include table number, title and page number.
7. List of Notations List the notations (abbreviations, symbols, etc.) used in the report in alphabetical order.
8. Main Body of Report Discuss with your supervisor regarding the framework for the main body of the report.
9. References Follow the Harvard Style of citing references. Refer to the citation guide.
10. Appendices/Annexes Arrange in the order in which the main text refers to them.

Other details (total number of pages for report, line spacing, font and font size, headers and footers, etc.) should be discussed and determined by the students and supervisors.   Copyright & Plagiarism

1. Copyright Students are required to comply with the Copyright Act and Regulations of Singapore when using materials (books, articles, images, etc.) for the projects.
2. Plagiarism This will not be condoned by the Polytechnic. Please read the Copyright and Plagiarism section in the Singapore Polytechnic Student Handbook.
